The .me event calendar

The registry recently announced the different phases of .me registrations (read our previous article “.me and you? be ready for Montenegro domain names!“). The schedule appears to be similar to .asia launch. However, a Montegrin Sunrise will be first set up and restricted to Montegrin entities. 2156 plaintes pour cybersquatting traitées par l’OMPI en 2007

Le cybersquatting correspond à l’utilisation illicite des marques dans les noms de domaine. L’OMPI a eu à traiter 2.156 plaintes en 2007, soit 18 % de plus qu’en 2006 et 48 % de plus qu’en 2005.L’Organisation mondiale de la Propriété intellectuelle s’inquiète du masquage de plus en plus courant des données personnelles liées aux noms de domaine enregistrés.

L’OMPI a pu identifier une hausse des dépôts sauvages logiquement liée à l’augmentation du nombre de noms de domaine et à l’importance stratégique que revêt un nom de domaine pour les entreprises, ainsi qu’à leur volonté accrue de protéger leurs intérêts.

L’article diffusé sur le Journal du Net le 28.03.08 précise que depuis 1999, les ayants droit basés en France ont été les plus prompts à défendre leurs intérêts devant l’OMPI, derrière ceux basés aux Etats-Unis. (more…)



.asia: Go Live period starts today!

Last registration phase for .asia domains is going alive within the next hours. Registrations will be based on a first-come-first-served system. During the ealier stages,

- 30,000 .asia applications during Sunrise period and Pioneers
- 300,000 domain applications submitted during Landrush
- 45,000 domains will go to auction

L’enregistrement de nom de domaine pour le compte d’un tiers n’est pas sans risque

La Cour d’ Appel de Paris a confirmé dans son arrêt du 19 Mars dernier que le transfert de nom de domaine à un tiers par le titulaire ayant reçu une assignation pour contrefaçon de marque est une faute engageant sa responsabilité (voir article du 25/03/08 Legalis.net).

En l’ espèce la société Safenames avait enregistré le nom de domaine autoies.fr pour le compte de la société Lantec, ne pouvant l’ enregistrer car étant en cours de constitution. La société Autoies a assigné la société Safenames en contrefaçon, le nom de domaine reproduisant sa marque “Autoies”, et redirigeant vers des liens de sites concurrents. (more…)



American Airlines reveals its mobile website

The US airline company chooses .com instead .mobi to enhance its mobile web services. With 1.6 million visits on www.aa.com each day, the company opted to exploit the popularity of its website and the easiness of typing and memorizing its domain name. Indeed, aa.com is much more customer-friendly than the registered domain americanairlines.mobi! Moreover, .mobi does not allow registration of one and two letter domains. New domain sale record: 10 million USD for fund.com

According to Clek Media Inc., the domain name fund.com has been buyed by Fund.com Inc., an online financial information publisher formely named Meade Technologies Inc. This all-cash transaction was valued at $9,999,950. Previous sale record was business.com, sold for $7.5 million.

Domain backwording: industry moves towards a new lucrative niche

Have you ever tried to read a reversed text? In fact, this skill would be useful to feel friendly with reversed domain names! Backwording describes backward domain names (e.g : example.com -> elpmaxe.com). This term has been used by Logistik Labs within the framework of the upcoming launch of their reversed domain platform.

.cr domains: TLDs opening continues…

costa rica - arenalLaunching TLDs is very trendy… and costly! NIC-Costa Rica recently announced the opening of second-level domain names (example.cr). Until now, registration was opened for third-level domain names (example.co.cr, example.ac.cr, etc.).

A 90-day priority registration period will be set, and restricted to holders of third-level domain names. If several applications have been submitted for a same domain name, that domain name will be attributed on the first-come, first-served basis.

.asia: updated application and auction lists

DotAsia has updated the list of .asia domain applications (view application list). The new list includes .asia domains submitted during SR2b, SR2c and SR3 phases. Amid the 30,000 .asia applications, short domains (between 1 and 3 characters) and numeric domains (1.asia, 10.asia, etc.) have been hugely requested.

.me and you? Be ready for Montenegro domain names!

dot meSt. Valentine’s day is approaching. Haven’t got any gift idea? Maybe you should declare your love or communicate your wishes by acquiring a .me domain name. Why not listento.me? read.me? creditcardfor.me? crazyof.me? kiss.me? (this is a suggestion from a colleague…)

However, the registry has not determined a date for registration launch yet. Regarding the NIC.ME rules, dot me will not be submitted to restrictions and domains will contain between 2 to 63 characters. According to the registry evaluation, Go Daddy will act as agent for domain exploitation. (more…)
