.asia: updated application and auction lists

DotAsia has updated the list of .asia domain applications (view application list). The new list includes .asia domains submitted during SR2b, SR2c and SR3 phases. Amid the 30,000 .asia applications, short domains (between 1 and 3 characters) and numeric domains (1.asia, 10.asia, etc.) have been hugely requested.

.me and you? Be ready for Montenegro domain names!

dot meSt. Valentine’s day is approaching. Haven’t got any gift idea? Maybe you should declare your love or communicate your wishes by acquiring a .me domain name. Why not listento.me? read.me? creditcardfor.me? crazyof.me? kiss.me? (this is a suggestion from a colleague…)

However, the registry has not determined a date for registration launch yet. Regarding the NIC.ME rules, dot me will not be submitted to restrictions and domains will contain between 2 to 63 characters. According to the registry evaluation, Go Daddy will act as agent for domain exploitation. (more…)



Domain industry conference: and the winners are…

awardsAs the Webby Awards honor websites, interactive advertising, online video and mobile, the Domainer’s Choice Awards reward domain services, industry actors and much more. Domainer’s Choice Awards occurred within the DOMAINfest GLOBAL’s 08 conference, which took place January 21-23 at the Renaissance Hotel in Hollywood, California. That event aims at improving domain industry cooperation and collective thinking.

2008 outlook for .fr domain names

Dot-fr domain names are on the rise. With currently more than 1 million .fr domain names, the French web market is being more and more sizable (see table 1). The rise of this extension is particulary due to the active internet policy of AFNIC (.fr registry) and corporate registrations. For example, in order to consolidate its assets, AFNIC has recently acquired the domain names nommage.fr and zonefile.fr, initially registered by a registrar since 2000. (more…)

domain auctionIf you are looking for a laptop on eBay, you can narrow your results by selecting Computers & Networking. Then appears a sub-category named Other Hardware & Services where you will find … domain names for sale! Some eBayers dare to specify domain shipping costs.

Domain auctions on eBay concern by far .com domain names (93%). Domains for sale are frequently related to porn industry (bestdamnpornstars.com) and often exploit events (US primaries and caucuses 2008, ClintonObamaIn2008.com).

Cybersquatters taken to court

court A very interesting article written in the Washington Post by Brian Krebs speaks about how the well known PC maker Dell has taken to court several Domain registrars, allegedly profiting from the exploitation of nearly 1,100 confusingly similar domain names to earn millions of dollars.The domain registrars BelgiumDomains, CapitolDomains, and DomainDoorman, as well as what Dell claims are nearly a dozen Caribbean shell companies, allegedly served as the entities registering the domains.
